Pink city got its name for the glorious pink structures that line its wide streets. Plethora of impressive forts and palaces dot the city of Jaipur. It came into existence in 18th century when Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II decided to move the capital from Amber. Jaipur was constructed according to the Shilpa Shastra, the ancient Hindu text on architecture. Old city of Jaipur is surrounded by huge wall having total of seven gates.

Climate
Best season to visit Jaipur is winter. Weather during winters in Jaipur is pleasant. Winters last from November to March and temperatures average 25 C. Nights can be chilly with temperatures dropping to 5 C. Summers in Jaipur are extremely hot and humid. Summer months are from April to July and temperatures during this time of the year range from 32 C to 45 C.

The City Palace
Built by combining the traditional Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, the City Palace is a seven-storied establishment boasting of arresting palaces, museum, courtyards, temple and gardens.

Jantar Mantar
The architectural brilliance of this structure attracts almost every tourist coming to Jaipur. It is an astronomical observatory built in stone by Sawai Jai Singh II in 1716 to measure movement of the stars and planets, time, altitude and other astronomical events.

Amber Fort
Mesmerizing to the hilt, this huge fort is a main attraction of Jaipur. Built in 1592, it has an astonishing architecture. The fort can be reached by a drive or on elephant's back. Done to perfection, the interiors of the fort are traditionally decorated. The fort overlooks the Maotha Lake.
